About me

I am a musician living and working in Purley on Thames, Berkshire, England, with experience in many musical styles and organisations.

My main interest is in composition, and the composer section of my website (see link above) lists a number of my musical works which are available for sale - and many free. Most of the music has been successfully performed by choirs, schools, churches, groups and solo performers. Recent commissions include Jubilate for the Singakademie, Saulheim and Jauchzet dem Herrn, Alle Welt for Ensemble Nobiles. In September 2014 I will be the composer-in-residence for a 5-day Vocal Ensembles Masterclass in Saulheim, Germany as part of the 2014 Rhineland Kultursommer.

I am a member of the BBC Symphony Chorus, singing a large and challenging repertoire in many concerts, both in the UK and abroad, and in recording sessions each year. In the past I have sung with local choral societies and have been the conductor of choirs, choruses and orchestras. I currently conduct the Gratis Choir, based in the Reading area.

I am experienced in playing the piano as an accompanist for soloists on various instruments and for singers. I have also played with local orchestras, both on the piano and on percussion.

I trained as a music teacher, gaining a BEd degree from the University of Oxford in 1976, and have taught piano, music theory and aural work successfully.

I am married and have three children - all now adult, living and working in Reading and Oxford - and two grandsons. My wife taught for many years in a local primary school.
